The Interview Process
What is the interview process for academic staff?
This includes EFL Teachers, Senior Teachers, Judges, Academic Event Managers, Assistant DOS and DOS
- If you are shortlisted, we will invite you for an interview. Due to a high volume of applications, only shortlisted candidates will be contacted
- Due to a high volume of applications, only successful applicants will be contacted
- If you are applying for a senior role, you will be required to complete a pre-interview task, which will be discussed during your interview
- If you are successful, a conditional offer of employment is then sent out via e-mail
- You will then receive all pre-employment forms
- If all the requirements and checks are correct, you will then receive an offer of employment
What is the interview process for senior staff and non-academic staff?
This includes: Activity Leaders, Centre Managers, Competition Hosts, Activity Manager and Assistant and Welfare positions
- If you are shortlisted we will invite you for an interview. Due to the high volume of applicants, only those shortlisted will be contacted.
- All applicants will be contacted regarding the result of their interview
- If you are successful, a conditional offer of employment is then sent out via e-mail
- You will then receive all pre-employment forms
- If all the requirements and checks are correct, you will then receive an offer of employment
Training
What training does the company provide?
- Activity Leaders are required to attend the centre’s on-site induction, which is paid and forms part of your contract
- All senior management staff are required to attend our senior staff induction, which is paid and forms part of your contract
- EFL Teachers are asked to attend the centre’s on-site induction, which is paid and forms part of your contract
Qualifications
What qualifications do I need to be part of the academic team?
- EFL Teachers require a degree and either a CELTA, Trinity TESOL or a QTS in English or a Modern Foreign Language. Other TEFL qualifications may be accepted if they have been validated by an external body and include a minimum of 6 hours observed practice
- A Director of Studies will require a degree and either a CELTA, Trinity TESOL or QTS in English or a Modern Foreign Language. It would beneficial to have a DELTA or Trinity College London DipTESOL
What qualifications do I need to be part of the non-academic team?
- Activity Leaders, On-Site Activity Coordinators and Activity Managers require no formal qualification to take on the role
- It is preferable for Welfare Manager and Welfare Assistants to have a first aid qualification but this can be provided for by the company
Working Hours
As an EFL Teacher, what will my working hours be?
- The role requires you to work 32 hours per week, including 30 hours of classroom time, and 2 hours which will cover teaching administration, attendance to meetings and CPD session. Due to the nature of the programme, some evening and weekend work will be required. All teachers have 2 non-consecutive days off in 14 days.
As an Activity Leader, what will my working hours be?
- Activity Leaders will work a guaranteed 44 hours per week. Evening and weekend work will be required. You are entitled to one day off per week. Some weeks you will work in excess of 48 hours, therefore you will be asked to ‘opt-out’ of the 48 hour Working Time Directive.
As part of the senior management team (Activity Manager, Centre Manager, Welfare Manager and Director of Studies), what will my working hours be?
- Each member of the senior management team will manage his or her time according to the needs of the centre. Some weeks you will work in excess of 48 hours, therefore you will be asked to ‘opt-out’ of the 48 hour Working Time Directive. You are entitled to one day off per week.
Venues
Can I choose the centre I work at?
- On applying, you can inform us of your centre preference. We try our best to accommodate this request but it is not always possible due to a variety of reasons, including but not limited to; there being no positions available at the specific centre, the balance between male and female staff members, the balance between returning and new members of staff, the applicant’s experiences being suited to a specific campus.
Does the company provide accommodation and meals?
- Yes, we provide accommodation and meals for everyone.
Can I work non-residentially?
- The large majority of our staff will live and work on site, however, we do offer the opportunity for staff to work non-residentially, depending on your location to the centre and with the understanding that your working patterns will not differ to that of a residential member of staff.
- If you choose to work non-residentially, meals will still be provided for you at no cost to yourself.
Can I go off-site on my days off?
- Yes, during your free time you are able to leave the centre.
Will the company cover the cost my travel expenses to get to and from the centre?
- No, unfortunately, travel expenses will not be covered.
Teaching Materials
As an EFL Teacher, what teaching materials will you provide?
- As a company, we pride ourselves on the support we are able to offer our EFL Teachers. We will provide you with a full induction prior to the students arriving, which will involve an overview of our academic programme & teaching expectations as well as an opportunity to familiarise yourself with our teaching material. We ask our teachers to follow our engaging syllabus, which caters to international students on short courses. However, the teacher’s books provided allow for plenty of flexibility and we expect our teachers to adapt the material to suit the needs of their students as well as their own teaching style. In addition, you will have the support of the Director of Studies and Senior Teachers throughout your time with the company.
Pay
What are the rates of pay?
- For the rates of pay, please see our rates of pay tab, which can be found here.
- The salaries are advertised as weekly rates and you are paid monthly. Should your contract cover 3 weeks and 2 days, for example, your salary is worked out pro-rata.
Contract Lengths
How long do contracts last with OIEG Junior?
- Our contracts last between 4 and 6 weeks.
- Some contracts may be shorter or longer but these are dependent on a number of variables including but not limited to: specific programmes of our students, availability of staff and student fluctuations.
Do I need a DBS check to work with OIEG Junior?
- Yes.
- If you currently have a valid DBS and have signed up to the DBS update service we are able to run a DBS check on you free of charge on the Government’s DBS portal. The check is done with your DBS number, date of birth and surname, and collates the most up-to-date information on you. More information on the DBS update service can be found at https://www.gov.uk/dbs-update-service.
What if I do not live in the UK?
- If you do not live in the UK, we will process an enhanced DBS background check for you. You will also need to provide us with a national police check from the country you are residing in. The employee will be required to cover the police check costs, and it must be dated within the same year in which you are working for us.
Frontier Worker Permit
Can I work in the UK if I don’t hold a UK passport?
- Following Brexit, we can only hire individuals who are able to prove they have the right to work in the UK. If you are unable to do so by presenting a British or Irish passport, you must prove that you either have pre-settlement status, or that you have a UK-issued government visa. We will require a share code, as well as your date-of-birth, in order to check your visa records via GOV UK.
