BEO 2025 – Student Participation Roles

Types of students

The following definitions clarify the different roles students can play within a team participating in the BEO 2025. Understanding these distinctions is crucial for both team organization and ensuring compliance with event rules.

The categories of “Participating Student,” “Performing Student,” and “Non-participating Student” outline eligibility for competition events, backstage support roles, and participation in other BEO activities. Each designation carries specific permissions and limitations regarding involvement in the official competition.

Participating Student

A Participating Student is an official member of a team, whose birthday falls between the BEO dates stated on page 2 of the official BEO Guidelines 2025.

Performing Student

A Performing Student is a participating student who is officially taking place in a competition event. Before starting their performance, all performing students will hand in their IDs to the judges.

If a Participating Student can help their team in the background: they can click through the presentation, play music and audio, and ensure that all other aspects of the event run smoothly. They will not be considered Performing Students and their participation will not count towards their minimum/maximum number of events they must take part in.

Non-participating Student

A Non-participating Student is a student who is travelling with the team, but whose date of birth falls outside of the scope set out on page 2 of the official BEO Guidelines 2025. Non-participating Students are not allowed to take part in any official competition events, they are at the same level as the accompanying Group Leaders. They can, however, join everything else that is not part of the official competition such as the workshops, International Night, Talent Show, and all activities, trips and excursions.
