A Cappella song contest
- How many microphones can we use?
There will be 3 microphones available in the venue. They will be placed around the stage in a semicircle to ensure everybody’s voices are picked up, but students will not be allowed to touch them.
- Are they expected to dance while singing?
No, not expected. They can, but they don’t have to. Do refer to the assessment criteria on page 23 as there is an aspect on body language.
- Can they use a cell phone to listen to the key before starting their performance? If so, can the teacher play it, because all students are participating?
They can use a tuning fork or listen to the key before going on stage. Teachers are not allowed to help in any way.
- What kind of flooring is there in the venue?
The BEO programme is run in different campuses where there are different venues. Some of them are wooden, some are non-slippery. Once your centre has been confirmed, we will be able to share more information with you on your assigned centre.
- Can students stomp their feet on the floor? Can they use their hands on the floor?
Students can stomp their feet against the floor to create sound, but not their hands. Feet are already on the floor, so there’s no extra movement to create sound. To create sound with their hands against the floor, it requires extra steps, and it no longer is a natural body movement.
- Do students have to perform barefoot or can they wear shoes?
On page 22 of the guidelines the dress code states that costumes are allowed but not required. It is up to the teams to decide if they want to wear shoes or not.
Drama Festival
- Can we bring our own props?
You can bring your own props, but these will be your full responsibility. Participating students will be the ones in charge of setting up and putting everything away. of course, the use of props cannot be a cause of concern for the performing team, nor a hinderance to the previous and following teams.
- Can we use a projector to include a background?
No. You can bring props to use them for your play’s background, but computers will only be used for sound effects, background music, or special sound effects.
